On the 6th of October, a recurring incident took place in Accra which we will say is a preventable disaster.
On that fateful day, a gas filling station at the Atomic Junction exploded causing the death of 7 people and 132 injured in admission at hospitals for treatment.
The explosion was caused by a leaking gas from a truck which was discharging the LPG into the storage of the gas filling station.
The truck which was said to have arrived at the filling station to offload gas to be sold to the general public for domestic us started leaking while it was discharging.
The driver, mate and supervisor of the station upon realizing that the gas was leaking fled the station screaming and shouting asking people to evacuate the area. At this time the gas was still been leaked out into the atmosphere gathering in the sky.
While others realizing the danger and running as far they could away from the area of the Gas leakage, a chinchinga seller who was about to start work and not realizing what was going on lite his barbecue stand.
The flame then shot upsetting the gas which had gathered in the atmosphere ablaze. The fire then linked up to the source of the gas leakage which is the truck with the LPG causing a second explosion.
According to experts the driver and the mate should had sealed the value preventing further leakage of the gas but instead they absconded leaving the gas to continue its exposure to the atmosphere.
