It is recorded somewhere in the Christian Bible that, ‘Woe to you when all men speak well of you…’ Truth be told, the opposite to the Biblical assertion is also valid. Well, ever since Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie became the nation’s favourite when it comes to rap, it’s the desire of most artistes to get him on their songs perhaps to spice up the lyrical content as well as public appeal.
But in the abundance of collaboration proposals piled up in the camp of Sarkodie by his colleagues – both local and international. Some artistes have spoken ill about the rapper in terms of his attitude when one approaches him for collaboration. Namely, Yemi Alade, Kwaisey Pee, Meiway, Quata Budukusu, Others.
Arguably, Sarkodie is second to none when making the list of most featured artiste for the past decade regardless, some are of the view that he’s selective and that makes him arrogant as in the voice of High Life artiste Kwaisey Pee. Well, take a look at how Sarkodie showed these artistes ‘pepper’ because of collaboration.
Yemi Alade, Nigerian singer, who shot to fame following the release of her smash hit single, Johnny’ somewhere 2017 revealed how she had to chase BET award-winner, Sarkodie to the maximum for him to feature on her song. To Yemi Alade, Sarkodie showed her ‘pepper‘ before ‘Ego’ song collaboration.
Ivorian music legend, Freddy Meiway also described Sarkodie as “disrespectful”. According to the ‘Zoblazo’ hitmaker even though he admires the award winning artiste and likes his music, his work etiquette is bad. Freddy Meiway came to Ghana somewhere 2017 and in an interview with Joy FM lamented that;
‘I have this song that I wanted to put Sarkodie on. I sent him the song and it’s more than a year and he didn’t jump on the song. Anytime I contact him, it’s all excuse; my wife just delivered a baby girl, I’m with her in America, I would do it don’t worry; today excuse, tomorrow excuse. He’s good but he doesn’t respect at all. He has to change his attitude.’
Highlife legend, Kwaisey Pee has also disclosed that despite his love for Sarkodie, the rapper has become very disrespectful and arrogant after gaining fame.
According to Kwaisey Pee, his song titled ‘Brɛ Brɛ‘ with Sarkodie comes with a video but Sarkodie’s ‘arrogant’ attitude didn’t help him to actualise the video shoot for the song. To him, Sarkodie has been giving him countless number of excuses whenever it’s time for the video shoot.
Truth be told, the aforementioned artistes are not the only artistes to suffer from Sarkodie’s ordeal. Acts like Quata Budukusu, Flowkingstone before the remix of ‘Fire Bon Dem’ used to complain bitterly about Ghana’s finest rapper. It’s in the light of this that some musicians have ‘cursed‘ the rapper if he fails to change especially Kwaisey Pee.
