Jamie Foxx hosted the BET Awards on Sunday and used his platform to pay tribute to late rapper XXXTentacion who was killed at the age of 20 in Florida last week.
Jaimie called on fellow musicians and the general public to use their music and their platforms to create positive change so that no one will get used to young people dying as a result of gun violence. He did this with reference to other slain rappers in the past like Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G.
Speaking about the two iconic rappers, Jamie said: ’I was actually in Las Vegas when Tupac was killed. I was in LA when Biggie [Smalls] was killed.
‘It seems senseless, I’m not saying that we can stop everything, but we’ve got to figure something out’.
During the In Memoriam segment of the award show, a photo of XXXTentacion was displayed as one of the people who have passed on this year.
In a bitter-sweet twist, some reports say that XXXTentacion knew weeks ago that his girlfriend – an unidentified woman – was pregnant.
According to the publication, an ultrasound picture was shared by the late rapper’s mother Cleopatra Bernard as she hinted that the rapper ‘left… a final gift’ for the world.
Meek Mill paid tribute to XXXTentacion while he performed at the BET Awards by wearing a hoodie emblazoned with the artist’s face on it.
