Veteran gospel duo, Tagoe Sisters have stated that Ghanaians have labeled people who sing gospel music wrongly by calling them gospel musicians and entertainers.
On e.TV Ghana’s entertainment talk show, ‘The Late Nite Celebrity show’, they disclosed that the right label for people who belong to that genre is ‘Ministers’.
“When you say a gospel musician, it doesn’t sound well. We minister as pastors. Everyone who sings preaches through rhythm and melody while the poets also preach through reciting the word of God. We are supposed to be called ministers and not gospel artistes. There’s nothing like gospel musician.”
“There are gospel songs but the person doing it is a minister. That’s why it’s a song ministration because those performing it are ministers,” they revealed.
According to them, they do what preachers do but through singing, therefore just as pastors are called to do the work of God, those who do gospel music are also called.
“We do what pastors do through singing, so one needs to be called into this ministry,” they said.
They also said that they are not entertainers. Their ministry does not seek to entertain anyone but rather bring positive change and draw people to God.
“We are not entertainers. what we do must make a positive impact in the lives of people and bring them to God,” they clarified.
The twins have been in the ministry for 35years and still counting. They have hit songs like, ‘Anka matete’, ‘Boa Me’ and ‘Yedi nkunim’ among others.
